So I finally signed up with my bank's merchant services to have a paypal proflow account, but I'm being charged more in services and fees than I am in actually using the account. Did I move too soon and get a service that my fledgling business can't really support yet?

Do you have an account similar to this? If so, how does it work?

I have a basic Paypal business account. They take 3% of each transaction.

Your bank uses Paypal for it's merchant services? Or am I confusing the name you are calling it?

Why did you think you needed a proflow account? I've done allot w/ PayPal for myself and other peoples website integration.

Can you tell us what your needs are? Then we can give you an answer as to whether this type of account is a viable option for you. ear.gif

    thanks for the help guys.

My bank works with a system called NOVA that interfaces with PayPals' Business ProFlow option.

What I've seen so far is that I haven't found a client who has used it yet, but I've been charged a lot to get this program started...including a $100 set up fee at my bank, a fee for the PayPal service and now service charges for when anyone else uses it.

I want my clients to be able to pay for their deposits to photo sessions, etc. online and I want to be able to take a credit card number over the phone as well.

Gut reaction.. ProFlow is designed for high revenue business. Not for small business that's concerned about the monthly fees.

Do you need online payments to stay inside your branding? What I mean is, when a client goes to pay online. Do they NEED to see your site and make it look like it's your payment page? Or can they go to a PayPal created page that has PayPal branding?

When you say, "take a credit card number over the phone". What exactly what do you mean? The sound of this is pretty scary to me. Holding peoples credit card info (no matter how secure you think it is) is a HUGE liability for you. If that data leaks out, or is stolen. You be most likely held responsible for the damages incurred.

If you mean something like you have a web portal through PayPal that you punch the cc info directly into a web server. Then it wouldn't be as critical.

I hear you, but no worries, you are correct! PayPal has a a portal that allows me to punch in the CC infor direclty into it's web server. I will try this for a little while and see how it goes.
