Well I have finally found my first wee spider. Is this what is called a jumping spider? It appears to have a pair of nasty pincers.
Regards
Bob

Technically its not a Jumping Spider, though I'm sure it would make some folks jump rolleyes1.gif

My God, how do you people live near these things?!

The winters are brutal but at least where I am I don't have to worry about waking up with one of those on my forehead!

    Nice shots!

    Hey Bob,

Great shot! What focal length macro lens were you using for that?

Nice shot of him. I call spiders that look like these "Wolf" spiders. Which from
the read is quite different from your spider "Tegenaria " but looks very similar.

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. The reason I didn't think it was a house spider was because I took a few shots of a house spider a few weeks ago and I didn't notice any nasty pincers. But no doubt they all have them. This wee guy sits behind its web and waits for the flies it hopes to catch.
I used the MPE at 1:1 and 2:1 shutter speed 200 F11 and F9 at 200 ISO. I am hoping to get some better shots ofhim and if I do I will post them.
    Regards
    Bob

What kind of web it makes will help identify which kind of spider you have.:D

Thanks Paul. I have looked Phil and once again your photos are out of this world they really are. I looked at the spider shots but they look similar to my house spider I took a while ago if you remember, but mine weren't as good. If that one of mine is a house spider it hasn't matured. I couldn't see any pincers on yours either unless they are hidden with the hairs.
I am sorry Daddyo but I couldn't make out what the web is like as it apears all mixed up with a fly in it. This wee guy obviosly knows I am there because as soon as I get near him now he vanishes and will not appear again until I go away completely.
    Regards
    Bob

It's a web spinning spider, so it's definitely not what would be a wolf spider. Nor a Jumping spider (as both of those are hunter spiders, and not web spinning ones).
