There has been a lot of work going on in my neighborhood by the power company and I have been having to shut down my computer during the day, so that they don't just unplug me.....OK no Prob....I do this a lot any way and it has stopped a ton of adware or junk ware from attacking my system.....

Monday I had to do a shut down so the power comapny could do their work...Ok fine.....EXCEPT.....

When I fired my system back up and cliked the FF Icon I DID NOT get my usual info bar asking if I want to "restore last session" or "start new session".....well since I usually ahve a ton of tabs open to important info sites....I always restore last session.....

Unfortunately I lost well over several "K" of photobook marks not to mention diabetes and Reiki book marks and over 100 open tabs in tha last session....

I did a standard windows shut down.......

Has any else ever lost all your FF bookmarks and your ability to restore a session like this.

NO I never close FF when shutting down the machine this is the only way to insure (well it WAS the only way to insure) that you get the complete session restarted.....UUUUUUUUUUUgh:cry........I have not used explorere for anything since downloading FF so nothing was saved in the Windows BookMark file......

Been on the Mozilla forums most of the day and nothing suggested has worked......pulling hair out now..............:scratch:huh:cry

    Hey Art,

Hmmm...this is a strange one. It sounds like FF must have crashed when it received the shutdown notification from Windows. But it should have known that when it restarted. Did Windows shut down normally? Have you checked the system event log and DrWatson?

One possible cause is having so many tabs open over a long period. FF still has known memory leaks, so never restarting it is tempting fate. The memory problem has been slowly improving, and the forthcoming V. 3 is said to be even better. Nevertheless, having a hundred tabs open seems like a bad idea to me, as it will chew up memory and page swap space needlessly.

Art, I am on a Mac, so this may not help. But can't you get back most of what you're looking for from looking at History and recreatingwhere you were, or are all this tabs opened too long ago???

    Don

    p.s.

On my MAC I use Camino for this reason, so I can reopen with all the Tabs/Windows I had. Only to do it I have to Force Quit/Crash the app! rolleyes1.gifne_nau.gif

Safari just wont do what I want with tabs. I use it for SmugMug and my Blog. Camino for the rest, including here.

Strange one. From what I've seen the Restore Session only comes up when FF crashes or otherwise closes abnormally--sounds like you're doing something strange there, but I may be wrong.

For your bookmarks, take a look in Documents & Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\FireFox\Profiles\nnnnnnnn.default You should see bookmarks.html, failing that look under the bookmarksbackup directory there & you should see backups of the html file for the last five days.

Art, as soon as you find these files, assuming they are intact, send yourself a copy of the file via an e-mail account that allows long term storage, like Google's GMail.

Thanks all for the info.....found all the bookmarks....then spent about 6 hrs closing tabs and bookmarking every tab that might be of actual use later on........and only 3 tabs that remain open or will be reopened with each new FF re-start............

Art: i recommend a FF add-on called Foxmarks. It is an addon that syncs your bookmarks to a server, and also syncs them to other FF instances. I use it to keep my home and work FF consistant in terms of bookmarks. It also serves as a backup of my bookmarks, since they are always stored on a server. You can even access your bookmarks from another PC, even if it doesnt have FF. oh, its free.

Firefox will also let you bookmark a group of tabs as a folder, then all you have to do is click, open all in tabs, and it will open them all up in one easy click... :)

This is what I ended up doing to get all my tabs that were of real interest for later use bookmarked quickly.......so I have over 100 tabs long and now I have over 500 bookmarked folders to actually sort thru and identify into usefully marked folders......some tabs were over 200 pages deep...:D

All I need to do now is catagorize all my BMs'

Why not just use del.icio.us.com and not ever have to worry about them. You don't even have to sort the bookmarks. Just use keywords when bookmarking and then retrieve the bookmark w/ keywords.

This is actually better since it may show you other bookmarks you forgot or would have placed in a different spot.

I'll be honest. It takes a bit of getting used to. But it's so easy and convenient. especially if your not at home and need a bookmark. Just go to del.icio.us.com and find what you need.

    BTW:
You can jsut type in delicious.com and it will take you to the same place mwink.gif

    Thanx SLOYErROLL........but

I have/had delicious....that whole tool bar is gone also.....I used another service for bookmarking for a few years....it was free but I send free services a little thank you donation from time to time to help keep doors open and services on line.....then one day I went to do a copy from IE bookmarks to them and POOOOOOF they were gone...no longer there all my other book marks (an estimate of over 25K) that I had stored with them gone too.

So nothing is pperfect......but working on getting my tool bars are corrected.......as of right now i am taking Ziggy53's advice and emailing to myself for long term storage

    THANX AGAIN TO ALL
