I am really enjoying learning how to make a natural portrait of a child look like art in Photoshop. The eyes still bug me a little because I want them more defined. Any extra pointers or ideas would be great.

Here is one of my most recent shots at it.

    I like it Tine,

At first I wasn't sure I liked the texture effect, but I decided I did. Its a lovely portrait and the treatment is excellent.

I think any parent would really flip over this.

    Very marketable.

I cant wait to see more.

Use the history brush and brush the eyes back in a bit, choose the opacity that makes it all work together.

Thanks patch i'll give that a try.

I plan on printing it on canvas for a display of my work on the 12th...I think the texture will work great printed on canvas.

I like it! I can't see how, if this were your child, you could resist buying it.

One question,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how are you going to have this printed on canvas?

    Sam,
The larger commercial Epson printers can easily print on canvas. I even can get this done locally where I live (a small southern city). I printed some prints on canvas after giving them a "water color" treatment in PS. Turned out really nice.

Great idea for a great picture. I really like the treatment on this one. I think it is a very marketable idea. BTW, was this done with a filter in PS or did you have to do a lot of hand work? Very nice job on this one.

    Canvas Prints
You can get canvas photo paper at CompUSA and/or Circuit City...I can't remember where I got my last pack. I like Epson, but I know there are other brands too.

Or you can do it online here.

I used the buZZ filters to simplify a bit and then a whole lot of manual playing. I finished it with the texturizer. I can't remember what all I did...one of these days I am going to learn to create my own actions so I can duplicate what I've done, but it never looks the same on different photos. Each one needs a little something different.

This is another one I've done that is more like a pencil portrait:

Good to know. I went to Epson's website and they do have quite a selection of different specialty papers, but all the canvas paper I saw was sold in rolls and was pretty pricey.

I'd have to say the fine art paper selection sure looked interesting.

I'll look around at some other paper manufactures and see if they have something in standard sizes.

The last package I bought spur of the moment to try was this.

More expensive choice is here or here

And this company also sells on ebay...best price, but never used theirs.
