Pine Beetle ?

can anyone id this critter, found near pine wood. only got a dozen frames before it flew. need to find another to get better pics hopefully.

    Hi Phil, it could be a Ribbed Pine Borer Rhagium inquisitor.
    They destroy Pines and Conifers, not sure that's what it is but it looks similar to it from the picture in my Bug Book.... Skippy :D

    OK, now let's hear from everybody who worries themselves sick every time a bug is "inconvenienced" for photographic purposes. This critter is a MENACE! Just ask all the life forms dependent on northern pine forests.

    i have just checked the id skippy, my beetle was a lot bigger than ribbed borer at 25mm body length, a bit more colourfull as far as i can see from online photos aswell.
