can anyone id this critter, found near pine wood. only got a dozen frames before it flew. need to find another to get better pics hopefully.

Hi Phil, it could be a Ribbed Pine Borer Rhagium inquisitor.
They destroy Pines and Conifers, not sure that's what it is but it looks similar to it from the picture in my Bug Book.... Skippy

WOW! I just noticed this was my one thousand and first post. Does that mean my opinions count more now?
Natural selection is responsible for every living thing that exists.
D3s, D500, D5300, and way more glass than the wife knows about.
i have just checked the id skippy, my beetle was a lot bigger than ribbed borer at 25mm body length, a bit more colourfull as far as i can see from online photos aswell.
still looking !
