Square mono long exposure coast shots

I've been doing a series of square mono long exposure shots of watery scenes recently. I quite like this format and the long exposure gets some very intriguing results. The idea is to have a set of 20 or so that I can pick 3 or 4 from to put on the wall in my hallway. I try and get strong compositions with positive shapes. Mostly these are done with an ND110 filter and converted to mono in Lightroom.

Here's the latest from this evening, taken on the south coast of England in Gosport.

"Jagged"

94 sec | f/16 | ISO250 | 102mm on 24-105.

And another from a few weeks back at Shoreham near Brighton.

"Cubic"

53 sec | f/20 | ISO125 | 58mm on 24-105

C&C welcome.

I'd put them all on my wall if you'd send 'em to me! You've done some very nice work.

"Down", for me, looks like walking down into liquid nitrogen.
Yet another really cool image. thumb.gif

Wonderful shots...I especially like #1; it does look like a machine! I'd agree with dogdots that you have your chosen three. I also like how you kept them in B&W...the texture, as well as the "feeling" really pop. You should keep this series up, and once you have 20, try to exhibit them somewhere!

Thanks - I've got about 20 already actually thumb.gif. My wife really likes "down" as well. It's sort of disturbing I think, almost like there should be a dead body lurking under there.

Here's another - I'll make this the last. It's great fun taking them - trying to find a striking set of solid angles that contrasts with the softness of the water. And getting the exposure right with an ND110 filter on is quite tricky too. Also, putting together a sequence on a theme like this gives a certain purpose to my photography and makes it more interesting as a result.

    Disturbing. rolleyes1.gif
I was thinking spooky, erie, dead cold, at the time I posted but didn't want to say so, so's to speak. Disturbing is spot on word. thumb.gif
Float a clothed blow up doll and see what happens. mwink.gif Wouldn't that look
odd (if anyone saw) if you tried it out.

How long is the exposure time? Michael

I think that one was about 15 sec with a pair of stacked ND 0.9s. I've got an ND110 now so I'm up in the 120 sec exposure range.

Would be tough putting a prop in the water with lengths like these. Good
    time for double exposure.
