Hurray, finally rebate season!. Instant rebate this time too, so B&H has theirs already figured in... going to push button on that 40D finally. Woohoo!!:clap
edit: link to 'official' announcement on Canon's website:
It's a beatiful thing! Hit the "buy" button on a 40D from B&H this morning. Very nice of them - unlike some other vendors, B&H didn't eliminate their "sale" price to coincide with the rebate.
Not to bad at Canoga!

DrDavid, noticed earlier that the Amazon listing had a note that said a Canon mail in rebate would apply to purchases starting May 19...meaning that you would get the $200 rebate, but it was mail in vs instant.
Of course I can not find that now, and most listings point to someone other than Amazon.
Amazon was the exact same price as B&H last week, but offered free shipping, which is worth $15 to me. Otherwise, they were the same price. Today, B&H is much cheaper: I chose B&H since today they were at least $160 cheaper ($1,293 with 28-135 lens vs $1,129 for same deal at B&H) than Amazon, so free shipping wasnt a factor.
Good deal on a lens for my brother in law, who also gets my XT ....
Woohoo.. Amazon has finally made some decent pricing on the 40D. It's now at $954, but if you have amazon prime (like me), you get 2 day shipping free.
Yeah, it figures that they'd put every 70-200mm lens on sale except the one I just purchased. Life just isn't fair...i could have used that extra money (for more gear).

Hey this is a good deal since I am just now going to go and purchase my new setup this weekend................. man $200 off of the 40D, that is going to save me some cash that I can use something else now. Thanks for this.
Good deal, Randy, I thought they would help you out. I ordered a 40D from B&H on Sunday, paid for express shipping because I wanted it for the airshow this weekend, and sure enough, it arrived today!
Looks like I have a long night in front of me playing with my new toy!

I'm still sad that I bought my 40D exactly 14 days before the rebate, meaning I *just* miss the price matching deadline for the new rebates it's a pity...
oh well at least I got 18 months of financing instead, lol
the 40D & the xti
Does the 40D really take much better pictures than the xti? I love my xti but I need to get a digital backup and I thought maybe I would get the 40D and make that my main camera.
Any suggestions .... or can anyone tell me the main differences? Thanks

They are both capable of taking very high quality images.
The 40D does have:
ISO 3200, which can make a difference when you need it (vs ISO 1600 for the XTi).
Thank you for the info! Now I just need to decide whether or not I want to spend more money for the 40D!
I previously owned an XTi for about a year and a half but a few weeks ago became the proud owner of a 40D... I LOVE IT. For what I do the 40D really is the next step up in supporting my needs, and I love feeling like I own a camera that is "made tough" compared to the XTi. Plus 6.5 fps is just awesome. (And I do use 3200 ISO fairly often for sports)
I'm gonna be at the airshow tomorrow. I went to it two years ago. F-22 Raptors going to be there too.
You know, I wonder about this...is Canon feeling the pinch of introducing the XSi, causing us XT owners to be completely confused as to which camera (40D vs XSi) to buy? I know it entered my mind, and I thought many times that I will just wait for the 50D, which surely will be 12 megapixel and have some other gee whiz stuff to rise above the XSi.
But who wants to wait another 8 mons or so? I'll take the extra $50

I tink this is the lowest price on the 40D I've seen.
5D is pretty cheap as well.

Oh, and if the 5DmkII is released tomorrow, I've managed to justify not having buyer's remorse—I'll buy the mkII too :ivar

I'm usually a day late and a dollar short.
I just bought my third 580EXII flash from B&H on the 16th.
So, I'm 2 days early and $30.00 short. :cry

They will and should honor the rebate if a rebate is issued within the return period.

return it, and buy it again.
The pdf in my first post says July 19

Called them about my 580EXII purchase on the 16th. They immediately refunded the rebate amount.
As usual, excellent customer service from B&H

Potentially faster and more accurate autofocus.
Faster frame rate, up to 6.5 fps (vs 3 fps)
3" LCD (vs 2.5")
14 bit image capture (vs 12 bit)
Larger, brighter viewfinder.
Much deeper shot buffer.
More durable construction.
More durable shutter mechanism.
Larger, more powerful battery.
