It makes sense to upgrade my camera, right?

The current rebate program makes me think ..
should I replace my trused 3 years and 35000
frames old Canon 10D with a 40D?

I am actualy quite happy with the 10D. Sometimes I
wished it had a faster buffer and antidust, but in the past
I was always able to take the pictures that I wanted.

For whatever reason I always bought glass or other things
for my equipment and never even tought about getting a
newer camera. Considering that, what's your recommendation?
Keep the 10D till it dies or get rid of it and buy a 40D
with the current rebate?

Thanks!

The Canon 40D would be a major upgrade over the 10D. If you want a more responsive camera with significant additional resolution and the ability to use EF-S lenses, now is a pretty good time to buy.

As always, I'd say look at your kit & see what's missing. Since you have wisely been concentrating on lenses first, I'll bet you are well-set there. If the 10D is now the weak link, go for it. Maybe even see if you can swing keeping it as a backup.

The 10D is pretty old and pretty slow to respond in my book.
I'd say do it if you don't like it's slow response time. If you also have all the glass you need/want then yes. If you are missing a lens, I'd probably get the lens over a new body.

I actualy do have some lenses on my buy list but none of those
have cashback. I'm Probably just going to sell my 10D + BG next
month and grab a 40D. It makes the most sense from an economic
point of view. Also I'll be able to (finally) use E-TTL II with my 580EX II
and utilize the faster focus with my 70-200/2.8 L. I'm already looking
    forward to it.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm also considering a move to the 40D from my 30D. Canon is giving the $200 instant rebate and this morning, I received a mail in rebate of $50 thing from Canon on the 40D, so that would be a total of $250 off. That would bring a new 40D down to $885. Figuring that I can probably sell my 30D for around $550-600, that's not a ton of money to upgrade to Liveview, Little faster shooting, slightly faster AF, etc.

    Speedlite 580ex II, Canon 430ex

Zig ...i see the 40D going around $940 in the US after rebate on several sites is that the current hot price ?

I am yet to hear a repair quote back about my dropped 30D & if it is unfixable i might decide to upgrade to the 40.

Currently, I can order one at $935 after the instant rebate. This includes free shipping and no tax. Upon receipt, I can download the rebate form from Canon and send them the UPC code for an additional $50 rebate, making the end sum $885.
