Great picture. I think it would benefit more by cropping out everything to the right of it's head, maybe just past the leaf and making a vertical shot out of it.
For a shot like this, you need to have some shadow to emphasis the contrast of the perfect lighting on the head of the cardinal. I think using the grass on the left side would make the cardinal pop out more. The body of the cardinal is in the shadow and is not interesting.
It could also be cropped horizontally, but IMHO, there is too much dead space to the right. If the body was lit just as perfectly, it would be great. The most interesting part of the picture is in the top left quadrant.
