Haarlem that is, in the Netherlands .
It is the place where I now live, situated between Amsterdam and the sea.
Nice place, old too ( founded in 1225 AD ).

Bye,
Peter Dumont

    I like this picture, but I have a feeling that there is a better way to capture the city. I think because the time you took it was an inbetween time.
    Like it wasn't really dark and it wasn't really light. The sky is not doing anything special except the moon which is rather nice. I think I liked the picture more when I thought it was only the moon and the top of the buildings.
    I think you should try reshoot this because it is a wonderful scene, but maybe you should do it at night, like what does it look like when those street lights are on casting werid shadows on the architecture. Of course if its too much like Harlem, I understand.
    Nice shot, keep posting. I saw some of your other shots and I like them.
    And by the way the light props on the thread, because I'm guessing you were the friend Andy was talking about in the flashlight thread, are awesome!
    Welcome!

    Hello ashley !
    Thank you for your reaction.
    As far as the picture is concerned;
    for me it is about the time at which it was shot :
    Early in the chilly morning.
    Still almost nighttime.
    Yet people are up and on their way to work by car and bycicle .
    For me this picture is about the contrast between

    a) the contemporary , that is the people who live in this town and their everyday chores.

    b) the ancient , that is this town with it's old buildings and 14th.century church in the background.

    c) the eternal , which is the moon and the sky .

    For architecture as such there are better spots to photograph in this town.

    As far as the challenge # 36 is concerned;

    I posted some instructions on how to go about flashlight drawing over here :
    http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=9446

    Surely as the winner of challenge #35 you are going to join the bout trying to retain your title, no ??

    I assure you that drawing with light is big fun and even quite addicting.:photo
    I am curious to see what you will come up with !

    Thanks again for stopping by Ashley !

    Hello Fred !

    You can say that again.
    Haarlem in the Netherlands is situated between Amsterdam and the sea.
    As a city it is 50 years older than Amsterdam ( it got it's cityrights in 1225 AD ).
    The center of this town mostly consists of old buildings, making it a real nice place to see.
    (The churchtower in the background was build in the 14th. century .)
    Yet the tourists haven't really discovered this place yet. :giggle

    Thanks Fred for taking a look and letting me know what you think.

    Bye,
    Peter Dumont
