Yeah, I also have seen this. It works great, but too bad it's limited to the US so far.
The speed and handling (dragging the map!) is incredible for a web based service.

For instance, check this view. There are 3 different quality regions: high, med and low res. My house is in the green one (med res), office is in gray one (hi-res). So I cannot show you my house:-(, not at this view (yet).

NASA World Wind (great app, thank you so much for point me towards it!) also has very different coverage for different areas. I guess it's just the nature of the beast..

Google offers a free trial of Keyhole (their service off which this map satellite view thing is based) which allows much closer "zooming" in areas where they have high-res coverage. It's amazing to look at your apartment building and recognize the cars in the parking lot.

It's sure great, but the full version is kinda pricey. As Sebastian pointed out, you can get a free NASA World Wind app - an absolutely amazing tool, especially considering the price.

You are right, I didn't pay that much attention to the details, but hey the service is brand new and I guess google will work on this. There's also WorldWind to fill these gaps, especially those around the world. I think someone even wrote a plugin for WorldWind to import google-maps-links. (or you just copy latitude and longitude to WW)

Yeah and that's the main reason I'll probably never switch to Mac or Linux&Co. I just love the big pool of freeware apps that often are Windows only.

Shame over me rolleyes1.gif and thanks for pointing this out. I'll try to think in a broader view, but keep on correcting me if I do it again. :D

.. they'll develop .NET support for mac (smth like Mono), and many of the new apps will run on them too.

Otherwise, it's a pure shame that you can't see it on your 30" - it's a blast even on 20", on your 30" it would be like flying the f*ing plane..

    Cheers!1drink.gif

Why doesn't Apple tak to ICANN and try to get the top level domain of .mac created? Then you can live in a parallel universe. :D
