Birds of Stanley Park

OK, I threw in a raccoon and squirrel photo as well
These were all taken within a half-mile (or kilometer, for the locals) of each other from Vancouver's Stanley Park near or at Lost Lagoon (taken while I was visiting up there last weekend).
I stumbled into (well, under) a heron colony right on the edge of the park near the city near some tennis courts (which gave me a nice clear view of the herons in flight). I'm still amazed that there is a heron colony so close to a major city! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see any of the chicks, but I could certainly hear them. And the most amazing part of all: I didn't get crapped on once!

Mute Swan:
Pair of Wood Duck drakes:
Goslings (I like the inquisitive one in the middle):
Gosling on the lookout:
Patching the nest:
Out to get more branches:
Too bright to get a good exposure on this guy, but he was less than 20 feet away! These urban herons have no fear.
Squirrel doing his best Rocky impersonation:

Hi Ron, Very nice set. I really like the Goslings in both of these shots, inquisitive and cute to say the least. Excellent captures.
The inquisitive shot is just great and of course there always has to be a lookout watching the lookout.

The goslings are by far the best, just too cute
Thanks! I think that's the consensus (goslings are cute). I'll have to go try and find some more of them in the next month or so

Excellent set but the last image of the plague infested rodent is definitely out of place.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Haha!
I like squirrels, but then I've come to the realization that they're smarter than I am, and that any contraption or device I come up with to keep them away (from plants, vegetables, or the bird feeder) is doomed to fail. I just renamed the bird feeder the squirrel feeder and now I'm not as upset as I used to be.
But I hear ya
