Ran across some puffins that were fishing on Prince William Sound this past weekend. I've seen them before but never managed to get a decent image with them being fairly shy and all parties in contant motion. This time I captured a couple passable shots.

Thanks for the comments. These guys were fun to watch (through the lens). They fish by sticking their faces in the water and looking beneath the surface for fish swimming below. The "dry look" and "wet look" photos are the same bird a few seconds apart after he stuck his head in the water. If you look carefully you can see the same droplet of rain on his back (it was drizzling). Unfortunately, I missed snapping a shot while his face was down. Maybe there will be another chance before the end of summer....ne_nau.gif

Hi, Very nice shots of a beautiful bird. I agree with Glenn on your site shots. The one of the Oregon Dunes brings back memories, I used to have a place up the road in Newport. I loved Oregon. I still love driving up the coast seeing all the trees that were sculpted by wind was amazing. It is an incredible coastline.

Thanks for the comments. These birds are one example of the amazing diversity of nature. Photography is such a great way to experience it. I find that watching critters through a telephoto lens is a great way to learn about their behavior, etc..

Also thanks for the comments regarding other images on my site. I've been fortunate to have had many opportunities to capture interesting images over the years. I only wish my skill level was equal to the task. Digital has definately helped ...rolleyes1.gif The Oregon Dunes shot has sentimental value for us also. One of our favorite beaches of all time.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I'd love to see what you could do with them too, Harry. You've definately got a way with bird images. I'll tell you one thing, these little buggers never sit still headscratch.gif

I love #3 (great DOF, with the foreground Puffin in focus and the back one blurred). Very exotic looking birds. If I was up in Alaska, I don't know if I would ever stop taking photos of the eagles and the bears, but these guys are pretty cool too.

I know how awesome it is to finally get a good shot of something after seeing it over and over. For example, I've seen many pileated woodpeckers, but I still haven't seen one that was close, when it was reasonably light, and when I had my camera. Some day!

Thanks for the comments, guys and glad you enjoyed the images.

Ron, as a photographer, living in Alaska definately offers many opportunities.... in the summer. But the winters are looooong.
