Hooked? More liked sentenced to a life of spending all your extra cash!
tell you what Mike, I have a 40D and was "only" using a 100-400 L but most of the other guys had the 500 f4 L and 1.4 teleconverters - ooh I would love one of those
Hi Stan. Very nice capture. I have to agree with Mike.. hooked, sentenced.. it doesn't make any difference, it only gets better and more fun. I look forward to your future BIF shots.

Nice image Those guys have got the eeriest looking faces. I believe I read somewhere that the dish shaped face helps direct sound into their ears. Kind of like a parabolic dish.

In the setting you were shooting they had an advantage, however; in noncontrolled environment you will get more BIFs than they will.

You're right Ric. Also it was my advantage shooting the birds when they perched nearby as I could come right down to 100mm and they could only get the eye in the frame and the 500 is quite a heavy beast.

That said I would still like one

Excellent shot! I agree with the others here, it is a slippery and expensive slope but a fun ride nonetheless. I also have the 100-400 and am looking long and hard at the 500...

This was my first shot at capturing birds in flight and I was with a group of guys from a bird photo forum so got plenty of advice.
