Ok so I have a big dilemma!

My current gear includes:

Canon 40D & 20D

Canon 50mm 1.8
(2) Sigma 50-500
Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

I have mainly shot sports thus the two Sigma 50-500 but they do not work indoors well. I used to own a Sigma 70-200 2.8 but it was stolen but I really liked the lens.

BUT Im also trying to do more tradtional photography work! Portraits, families, seniors, wedding....

So Im in a toss up between repurchasing the Sigma 70-200 or purchasing a better wider lens.

What are some good suggestions in the 600-700 dollar range for a better general photography lens. Does not have to be Canon but would be great if it is.

Tamron's 28-70 lens would be an appropriate lens for portraiture, weddings, and that sort it's pretty affordable also.

    or alternatively..

I'd sell the 2 sigmas 50-500 that you own and buy the 17-55 f/2.8 IS from Canon or the 24-70 L.

    Wider?
    Sigma 10-20 or a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8

    Longer lens for portraits?
    I'd sell one of the bigmas and maybe get a 85mm f1.8, 100mm f2, Tamron/Sigma 70-200mm f2.8.

I think all except the Sigma 70-200 would fit under your $6/700 budget.
