Nikolai was born in the 3-d century A.C. He was a bishop in Mira. After his death he was canonized. Later he became one of the most esteemed saints - mostly in Tsar's Russia. But also in other countries of Europe. St. Nikolai is held in respect in German Frieburg. In Italy - Bari and Naples andi Sicily. St Nikolai became know in English and Dutch as Santa Claus. Due to this he became known in America and was one of the Saints stand guard over New York. He is also kid's defender.
He is also honoured by sailors (Mediterranean). We can see his images on boards of different ships.

I visited ST Nikoli's church in Mira.
It was founded in 5 century A.C. It was restored in 1042 with emperor Konstantin 9 and his wife's initiative. Most fresco are of these times.
