Hi Guys/Gals

I've recently been commissioned to shoot a clothes collection and I'd like some advise on what I need to know and should be prepared for should I accept it. I'm thrilled at being asked to do so but am unsure on a number of issues, such copyright and ownership etc. The shoot itself is unpaid - I'm happy to do the shoot for the exposure and chance to work with this particular clothing label.

Cheers

Since it is an unpaid, volunteered (sort of ) job....if it were me ...I would retain all copyrights and the clothing company would get use rights....1 time use, 60 day use, 6 month use or 1 year use and I would want a signature line (by line in news termnology) in every single ad and that signature would not only contain my name but a contact line also.
I would aslo get copyies of at least a few of the ads for portfolio use....

    Harj:

Everytime you push that shutter release you create a copyrighted image. You can take further action to protect that copyright through registration but ownership is always yours, period!

Use of your images by a third party, including compensation for such use, is determined by contractual agreement.

Remember to secure model and or property releases. Do NOT allow the client to secure them. You want control of any and all releases.

    Good luck.

    Hi Scott and Angelo,

Thanks for the advice guys. My heads kind of spinning around (1) for being asked to do this and (2) trying to work out how to do this and do it properly. I've been to see the client today and its an interesting project to do and I've verbally agreed to the shoot (did I jump the gun ??). I need to sit down and work this out - put together a written contract and to ensure that everythings above board and I don;t loose out.

Any good websites that are worth looking at for this kind of thing ?

    Cheers
