Just used the catus wireless the other nite. worked perfectly. very simple. recommend it. It fires the flash, and that is it...no e/i ttl of course. we had 3 of them set on different strobes. Occasionally a strobe would not fire, but we got 98%+ shots. I wasn't further than say 5-8ft away, so not sure of the top end of the range.

Awesome for $30. I am tempted to pick some up to use in combo with my ST-E2, via the PC socket, to fire background and hair lights, letting the main and second lights be controlled via ST-E2 ETTL.

By the way, if you are not that comfortable with ebay, Midwest Photo Exchange (sponsor of Strobist) sells them.

This sounds to me like you just used a flash trigger and I understood him to be asking about a shutter release.

Mine doen't have a brand on it and would need to dig out order to find it. I got mine from a seller on e-bay over a year ago and it works!.

ah right, I have only heard of cactus associated with flash triggers, so assumed that is what he was asking for

I dont know about the ones you have mentioned mate but i have this one & its unkillable. Works at hundreds of feet & concrete walls are no issue for it.

You cab find them on ebay with a 'buy now' for about $20 & the same for postage.

Art, you replied while I was getting this together; but anyway here is mine.

It seems that I have a different one than Gus. Mine looks like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Wireless-Shutter-Release-for-Canon-EOS-40D-30D-5D-1Ds_W0QQitemZ350065212949QQihZ022QQcategoryZ64345QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem but came from Link Delight back in Feb. of 2007. The only problem I have had with it is the receiver accidently getting turned on in my bag and running the battery down. I have gotten around that by storing it with the battery in a tiny plastic bag and everything that is part of the wireless release, including that battery, in a plastic case (they gave me the case for my glasses at the hospital when I had surgery).

Link Delight has since started selling a different model which they say has batteries that are easier to find. I found this listing http://cgi.ebay.com/Aputure-Wireless-Remote-C3-for-Canon-5D-20D-30D-40D-R7E_W0QQitemZ190221778076QQihZ009QQcategoryZ64345QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247from them. It seems to compare current to a different one than I have.

    Hope this helps

    Thanx Jane.

I had researched all the available wired shutter releases but I do not wantto be tied to my camera ever again when doing weddings...by again Iused to use a 50 foot pc cable to fest fire my mail flash for metering shots in church's sanctuarys.....and I hated having to replace them as they would become useless after being coiled and shoved into camera bags in a hurry trying to get from ceremony to reception....so for now I need inexpensive wireless to start out with....................again.

Absolutely ..it does work as its advertised. How can you go wrong for that price.

All i did with mine was replace the batteries with better quality ones. If anyone wants to replace the battery inside the transmitter (the bit with the aerial) Just undo the screws & open the case gently...the aerial will be loose inside so just put it back in its position & retighten the screws once you have replaced the battery.

Nothing wrong with the batteries supplied however i was heading on a holiday with mine & knew that if they died whilst i was traveling then i may have issues finding replacements so it was just a preventative.

Transmitter takes an A23 & the receiver takes a CR2.

Having never used anything but astandard cable release I was wondering if you can Bracket with one of these or for that matter...with any electronic shutter release??

You should be able to bracket with these Phottix wireless releases. Heck it can handle the Bulb setting and you don't even have to keep holding down the button on the transmitter.
