    I'm a photoshop newbie and I have paintshop pro X too...not good with either of them. The image was originally in color, but I switched to bw...what can I do to improve it?

    Shooting your original in color and switching to BW later is the best approach. An even better approach would be to shoot RAW?

    I think the first step in improving this image would have been using fill flash. A slightly different angle would have let the sun hit her from directly behind and may have given you a better chance at getting a good exposure.

    I think the image you posted here could use more contrast. The blacks need to be pushed in a little more, but those hightlights are blown.

    I wish it were better exposed. It is a very good composition and is entertaining also.
