i was stood up with out a tripod or pole shooting at 2:1 life size 4foot off the ground...Not easy!! Dam hard trying to a shoot at 2:1 lif size stood up 4foot of the ground using only handheld and nothing to rest on as it was perching on some stinging nettles..i took about 30 shots and the ones you see below was the only keepers.i dumped 26 images and kept only 4.i wanted a front view mug shot so bad but after 2 or 3 mins if flew off after i moved to fast and it got frightened off.

My 1st ever dragonfly shots..:)

Excellent shots. I know exactly what you mean with this lens. I am seriously thinking of getting rid of mine as I am running out of patients with it.

That is quite the ugly beast - it's a testament to your skills that you can make it look so interesting and beautiful!

Our ponds out back attract a lot of dragonflies, but this is the first time I've seen one so .. intimately. I can't wait to show the kids all of your pictures :D thanks so much!

I am using a 40D with a 580 flash. I just cannot seem to get anything to focus like you and others do on here.

Hi and thanks for replying. Yes I initially started with screws and coins and was quite happy with the results. However, trying to shoot stationary insects or flies etc I just cannot seem to get the results that are appearing on here. I have read Dalentechs blogs and he has also advised me. However, I will keep trying and hopefully things will improve. Thanks again for all your kind help.
