Came across what I thought was a caterpillar larva but a little research has lead me to believe that it is a sawfly larva (perhaps birch sawfly). Can anyone help ID it?

Good captures- lovely colour and light. Not good on caterpillar IDs so not sure I can help there.

Thanks for the positive comments Brian. I am pretty sure they are sawfly larvae.

Thanks for the link Skippy. I too searched for info and it turns out there are a lot of different sawflys and hence different loking larvae. Each type seems to have a favorite tree or shrub to munch on. The ones in your link are green and about 15mm long. Mine are much paler (closer to whitish) and about 30mm long. Some have stripes and or spots. He/she did have a few friends on the tree.
