Add another vote for the knob. As much as I like my BH40, I often have a hard time keeing track of the lever position (angle) when my mind and eyes are elsewhere.

I had to called them to check up on the backorder of my new RRS monopod head; it won't arrive in time for my shoot. :cry

While I had someone on the phone, I inquired about the knobs between the BH-40 and BH-55.

The owner/designer is pretty happy with the current design with the level on the BH-40. And they picked a level for many good reason (e.g. needs more tension on the smaller ball head since people tend to put heavy lenses on it, level doesn't get in the away of the drop down notch, etc.).

The only suggestion given was to compile a letter with the request to the owner and ask him to consider the change.

However, the person that I spoke with thinks this will be unlikely to happen since RRS is content with the currently design.

Just curious, but why? Because the '40 is lighter for hiking? Adding doodads like a big knurled knob would increase weight defeating the purpose, no?

Too heavy. I might just buy what they're telling us about torque, though.

My Lowepro backpack weighs 6 pounds, empty. I just can't see compromising my ball head to save 9 ounces.
