Yeah!!! I bought the Canon 55mm-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. Now tell me I didn't just waste $300. I took a couple of test shots in the house and am happy so far. Will be taking it to the mountains tomorrow and the coast after that.

I'm kind of excited! :clap

You should be excited. That lens gets great reviews. I look forward to your assessment.

Yeah! When you're back from the mountains, please let us see some pictures
and maybe a few comments on the lens too.

What body are you shooting it on?

    Ziggy, I am excited!

    Ian, I'm shooting with a Canon 40D.

I just posted here about our trip to the mountains. I am liking this lens so far. I really don't have any expertise in comparing and contrasting lenses. I just need to learn! Check out those photos and let me know what you think.

Here's a couple from this morning. It was really foggy and not great light, but I was up and dieing to shoot something! mwink.gif

    #1 Not great, but close!

#2 Horrible angle, but I liked the detail in the wing. With practice...

#3 Actually one that wasn't bad considering the lighting.

We are off to the Wild Animal Park in a bit. I will post more pics with this lens.

    C&C welcome. :D

These are a good start. Here's an idea - when you are shooting against the sky and without fill flash, you may want to consider dialing in a stop (+/-) of positive Exposure Compensation. This will tell the camera to admit more light to the sensor than it thinks it needs. This will result in the bird being better exposed but at the cost of over-exposing the sky (nothing comes free).

Ok, I wasn't impressed with the photos I have taken with the new lens yet. I'm still sifting thought my vacation photos. However, here is a shot of the moon the other night. Tell me what you think. It's the first photo I've been able to take without it looking like a white dot in the sky.

Looks a tad overexposed. Remember, the moon is a sunlight subject. No need to brace anything, especially with an IS lens when shooting the full moon. Here's a handy calculator based on Shay's original.
