I was walking around the Nymphenberg palace in Munich, and saw this young bird swimming past. Managed to get a decent look at it, but I can't figure out what exactly it is. A duckling of some kind?

    Good shot! thumb.gif

The shape of the beak says merganser to me, turns out to be the common merganser most likely.

    Thanks!

Yeah, a few hours after posting I managed to identify it as a common merganser (or a Goosander as they're called in Europe). Funny... I'd never seen one in the US; I had to go to Germany to see one :D
