Hi all,

These shots are from a recent Rodeo in Norco, CA held back in April. Finally got around to editing them. This is my first attempt at shooting a rodeo and would greatly appreciate any feedback you might have.

For me the more successful shots are when you were shooting from up higher, because you don't have the backlighting issues. The barrel racing shots, for instance, are good, as is the shot of the young girl.

I would use manual exposure for the bronc riding if you're down low like that; the strong light from the back underexposes the action. Measure the exposure for the ground and make that your manual setting. It's okay to wash out the uninteresting background to more properly expose the rider and horse.

    Thanks for posting.

Great shots. What camera was used? If this was a P&S, the results are understandable, but if you have something where you can pick the type of exposure, I'd definitely recommend taking it off of auto, and selecting the shutter and aperture settings. The ones that are backlit really well, come out dark on the subject. You definitely have great detail in the ones that aren't backlit. For instance, the little girl photo has fantastic color and detail. The others have great stop action, but are backlit and so the automatic features adjust to that and not to the subject. Manual settings would give you even better results (especially since you can't use flash).
