Should have known better answering an ad on craigslist, but I thought I would test the waters...
A celebrity booking firm was looking for photographers to shoot a celebrity pool party for a promotion of somekind in the DC metro area. The celebrities were low to mid profile, contestants of well known reality game shows (ie "Americas next top model"...). They really didnt give much info on what was expected of the photographer and what their intended use of the photos would be (I asked, no response). They did expect me to do my own post processing and didnt answer my question of expected turn around time and were looking for 2-4 hours shooting.
Based on the little information I had, I quoted 1800-2200 (considering need for light setup, prints or CD etc.) not including limited commercial/promotional usage. He said my rates were way out of their budget.
Granted, if a business is looking for a photographer on craigslist they are generally looking for an inexperienced amatuer that is looking to build thier portfolio who will work for credit/cheap. My question is, was my quote out of range for the type of event/area? The ad stated they wanted a professional...
Thanks in advance for your input!
