I am going to be purchashing new glasss soon for my 40D and I have decided on the 17-55 f/2.8 IS. I was looking on Adorama's website and it says "Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for for 30D, 20D, Digital Rebel & Digital Rebel XT Only - U.S.A. Warranty"

Does this mean it won't work on my 40D? If so, why not?

It'll work just fine. I guess they forgot to update their site to include the 40D, XTi, and the XSi.

It will work on 40D, the description at Adorama might created before 40D came out, and havent been updated since.

I just bought 17-55 as well for my 40D from Canoga Camera, I think they got the best price at this moment

EDIT : Wow, I left my reply window opened for few minutes to check the current prices at Canoga, suddenly there's already few replies here, Laughing.gif

I just checked Canoga prices, looks like they just raised the price o.O ...

In case you're wondering why it only works on those cameras it's because it is an EF-S lens. It will not work on the 1 series bodies. I rented one and so far I really like this lens.

I love mine too, except for all the dust that gets inside, although it doesn't seem to be hurting the images yet. A friend of mine rented one from the local shop, and they told her they need to send their rental 17-55 out for cleaning every few months.

Nor will it work on a 5D. It only works on crop bodies, it does not work on full frame sensors.

I've not had any dust problems btw, I know this has been a complaint about the lens... though I've not owned it for very long myself, it did come to me used nice and dust free.

My brother has that combo and has fantastic results. If I was a Canon user that's the setup I would get.
