Stupid Question about Avatars

Alright, I'm pretty embarrassed to admit this, but here goes...I can't for the life of me set up an avatar. Let me rephrase that...I know how to do it, but I just can't get the image down to the proper size/resolution. I'm trying to crop a section of an image, and then go from there, but no manipulation of the pixel/resolution setting will get the size down small enough to use. Any step-by-step tips would be greatly appreciated. :dunno

In Photoshop, use Image-->Image Size and resample. Then use File-Save for Web to eliminate EXIF and other unneeded bits, and adjust the JPG quality till it meets the file size requirement.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, Richard. I wasn't using the "Save for Web" option in my earlier attempts. That did the trick...

Figured it was better to revive a thread than start a new one so here goes. How do I enter a link to a photo in the avatar menu? I'm trying to put in a new avatar pic but all of my links are coming up as invalid url. The gallery allows external links. I tried -Ti, -Th, -S all without success. I know I'm missing something obvious but can't figure it out....

    Eyal,
You know how your customer profile prefills http://www where you input the link for the custom avatar?

Just copy the correct link from your gallery, the whole thing. Delete the prefilled http://www. and paste the new link. See if that works! :)

    Hey Christina,
Thanks for the post. I tried that again making sure to delete the second instance of http://www but it is still giving me an invalid URL error message. This is for -Ti -Th and -S sizes....
    Not sure what's going on.

I was having this same problem, and I wondered if it was my custom URL causing the issue. So I tried replacing "theoriginalblackcat.com" with "blackcatphoto.smugmug.com" and it worked. ne_nau.gif So try editing your URL to include the SM nickname URL instead of your custom URL.

    How To Do Location
I have a location in my profile, but it doesn't show if I post.

I noticed some posting show location and others don't.

What am I missing on being able to show my location.

    Thanks for any info.

You have to have something listed in all of the boxes (equip, goodies, locations, gets you going, and what you do) even if it's just a ".". Once you do your location will show. :D

I don't think its all, but there is one that needs to be entered or some others don't show. It's a VB bug, sorry. I am never sure which one it is, so entering something in all of them will certainly work thumb.gif
