Yes, the gallery links (and the other links) are static.

It's always: yournickname.smugmug.com/gallery/xxxxxxx_yyyyy


Everything from the pound-sign on can be ignored.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking about. A gallery link is a permanent link that will stay as it is for the life of that gallery (e.g. until you delete the gallery).

There are two ways that I know of to make more human readable links.

1. You can link directly to a category with a link like this: http://jfriend.smugmug.com/Portfolio.
2. You can create "synonyms" for your galleries with vanity URLs. This involves putting a small amount of Javascript in your customization (requires at least a power user account). You can read about how to do that here. It allows you to make a link like http://jfriend.smugmug.com/seagulls to go directly to the actual gallery link.
