It’s all Schmoo’s fault!

I blame her!:D

After viewing this, this, and this, I ended up with the sigma 8mm .

I wasn’t planning on shopping for anything but then I dropped my 20D and 70-200 on asphalt and needed a replacement body. :cry BH to the rescue! And the fisheye showhow ended up in shopping cart along with the camera body.

How do I like it? It’s a fun lens and useful in certain applications (and not everything), but I think it will be useful in capturing grand landscapes.

C&C welcomed. And advice on how to use this thing

Hi there. I invested in a Peleng 8mm at the same time as my camera and they really are alot of fun. I really like your IR shot, I wish I didnt have an IR blocker on my camera :( I thought I'd be doing alot of landscape stuff when I got mines but I cant really get any deacent shots with it. I want to get alot of content of what I see infront of me in a really wide shot but instead my fish eye seems to make the horizon seem really distant with everything crammed towards it with alot of ground infront of me which can be distracting but I've only experemented with long shots like that on hills, thats probably why. But theres definitely always somewhere to use it, Everytime I go out shooting I take it with me and end up using it every time :)

Wow, so the official pre 2008 dgrin shootout buying spree has begun!

I can honestly say that I blame dgrin and its members for countless purchases since I joined this forum.

(...but my wife still says not to blame others for my purchases)

I'm jealous of your new kit! And I absolutely love the IR shot. Fisheye is really fun when you do things like put it on the ground facing straight up. 180 degrees of visibility means hours of fun. :D

I do agree that it's such a fun lens and shouldn't be used for everything... but I always have trouble taking it off the camera and using a "normal" one.

At least you have something to keep you busy until you get your 70-200 back. How close do you have to stand to the ice to get decent shots of players with that fisheye!?

The IR shot is very nice.
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

I think this is one of those lenses which will come out with me whever I shoot. Gosh! My bag is already heavy!

But if I don't bring it, I'll get mad at myself when I find myself reaching for it!

Yes, the shopping spree has started.

I always thought that BH should give a discount since the shootouts tend to generate a massive shopping spree before AND after the event! I remember making wish list of "must haves" during the trip. :D

With sports, it was easier to take it off, but during the picnic, I found that I always wanted it on because I was too busy playing! Thanks for giving me the idea about the fisheye!

The IR shot is very nice.

Thanks! I find that IR provides a very interesting view of the world and that the fisheye just provides a different dimension to it.

I'm just glad that my IR body can share lenses with my regular body!

    Nice work!

You're pushing me toward one of those bug-eyed things too, but I haven't yet decided on which one to drool after, 8mm or 10.5mm. :D

What sort of IR-filter did you have in your IR-camera, I love the world of color you got in that shot thumb.gif I've got the clear-glass-can't-see-through-the-camera-but-not-too-late-to-ask option lol3.gif

    want. one. too. lol3.gif

It's such a great little (ready: big & heavy) lens, I'm glad Schmoo made you do it :D I like the shots, that IR one is pretty cool; I don't think I've ever seen an IR fisheye shot before.

I ended with the 8mm sigma because of schmoo (and the great reviews from others). I was also looking at the tokina 10-17mm (I think) and the Canon 15mm one.

I don't use any extra filters -- I used my IR mod'ed xt body for my IR captures; the filter on the sensor is changed. And looking at the sigma 8mm lens, I'm not positive that one can stick an IR (or any filters) on it since the lens is convex. It has a little adaptor thing like a hood where the lens cap attaches, and it has threads, but I'm not sure if it's for filters.

Maybe someone else can chme in???? ne_nau.gif

Thanks! And you were partly to blame as well due to your fish-eye photos! And the question is... when will you get one??? mwink.gif

And as for the fishy-IR shot, I don't believe there are many peole out there who owns an IR body as well as a fisheye lens.

The filter on the sensor was the one I meant, I'm just wondering if it's the same thing I use on the lens.

My clear glass sensor does mean I wouldn't be able to use fish-eyes for IR, unless the lens takes a gel in the back like the big L-buckets do.

Looks like they do take gels, found a filter manufacturer and a dealer, ooooh dear...

Hey April, would you mind taking a couple of piccies of the gel holder thing in your fisheye?

Your IR fisheye shot would be the 1st I've seen of one.
