These were all taken at the Ridgefield NWR in Vancouver, WA (about 15 miles north of Portland, OR) over two trips in the past month. A great spot for birds!

#4 I was in my car and this heron was only a few feet away, pretty cool!

#5 And then it took off, and I was lucky to get a shot with the entire bird in the frame (this was at 140mm, 100mm with a 1.4x, the heron was only 2-3 feet away)

#6 Two cat tails are better than one!

Thanks Mike! That RWBB was dive-bombing the GBH for about two straight minutes, but the heron didn't budge.

Thanks Dave! Ridgefield is the first place where I've photographed a yellow-headed blackbird, they're cool birds, they have a very unique song. There were several males, and I think a few nests as well (too far back for me to see).

Here's another shot of the same bird after (or before) doing an owl impersonation:

Fantastic series. I love the one with the YHBB perched between two cattails! The unidentified bird I believe is a Savannah Sparrow.

Thanks Stephen, for the comments and the ID, if the bird is brownish and smaller than 6", I'm totally lost :D

Most of those are called LBJs, Little Brown Jobbers. rolleyes1.gifHowever, the savannah sparrow is a frequent visitor to my yard in the winter months and much of the spring so I was fortunate enough to recognize it. :D
