Lovely orchids Lynn.
I know what you mean about flowers.I have a hard time with them also.
Im going for some tulips this weekend and will try a few things out.
I like this shot. The natural lighting is very nice. What do you think about shooting orchids against a blown out high key background? I was playing around with this technique with some tulips the other day. I'm trying to find that extra "ooomph" for my flower shots.
I don't know about flowers not being your best subjects. This one is very nice. The flower on the right is shadowed, pretty bad, but the one on the left is outstanding Very nice exposure, great color and contrast and look at all that petal detail
I like it. You have good colors and details in the shot. I would crop out the flower on the right and just go with the one on the left.

I'm not able to shoot much :cry so here is my humble attempt at an Orchid.. I've come to the conclusion that flowers are not my best subjects
Excellent color and texture Lynne! FWIW, for some reason I have the idea to try some vignetting technique with this image and maybe play with the stem on the left side of the image by blurring it a bit or lightening it to soften its presence. These flowers are beautiful yet a challenge to shoot. I captured a very similar image to this one, of the exact same type and color of orchid as yours, that belongs to a friend of mine.

Personally, I think you did a very nice job of it
