Best Place to Convert 8mm Super8 and Old Movies and Slides to DVD?

Typical story, I found a box of old movies (large reels and small, not sure if that means anything) at my parents house. Also found several boxes of slides, mostly Kodak Etchakrome.

I'd like to get all of these put onto DVD, or even BD @ 1080 if possible to upconvert them.

I saw several sites doing some quick google searches of this but you know how it is with family memories, they need to be handled by only the best.

I trust my fellow dgrinners to pass along any positive / negative experiences they've had with this stuff - what do you think?

oh yeah... just to add to this I also have several hundred old pictures of various sizes and condition - would also like suggestions on a place to send those to get them scanned in at a relatively high resolution converted to .jpg's so I can upload them to my smugmug site.

Thanks in advance for the comments...

Not sure why they pasted in like that but thanks for the heads up - I just fixed the links.

Also, last year pophoto had an article about www.scancafe.com - has anyone used them? Here's the article: http://www.popphoto.com/popularphotographyfeatures/4844/the-24-cent-scan.html (it's entitled "the 24 cent scan" but the scancafe.com website is now advertising prices starting at .19 cents @ 3000dpi).

    thanks!

I found the www.scancafe.com post here http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=45901 so I'm leaning towards using them for the scans but still need some opinions about some places to transfer the movie reels over.

Thanks for those links. I haven't looked into this for a while, and it looks like there are a lot more companies doing frame by frame transfer for consumer clients. The price has come down a lot too.

I notice that none of these companies offer wet scans. If anyone posts their experiences, I would appreciate if you could comment on whether scratches and other marks appear in the scan.
