I found this guy alongside the road, and just as I got him all lined up, he up and flew off. He hit the grass on the otherside of the road and picked up a mouse (how he saw I have no idea). He then flew back to the next telephone pole. I freewheeled closer and took a few shots:

I then freewheeled past him and as breakfast was now finished he didn't budge:

(Sorry about the very unartistic perch :D)

Very nice! As for the perch, it is what it is, electrical lines and such are 'nature' to them these days.

Nice shots, but that doesn't look like any kind uf buzzard. Looks like a hawk, though that me be what it's called in Africa. Not the first time something has been officially missed named, if so.

Thanks! Disagree with you on the misnaming though - you guys over there tend to refer to vultures as buzzards headscratch.gif

You are correct, My mistake. Confusing Vulture and Buzzard, myself.

Wouldn't be the first time something was misnamed, though.

Hello Don! Been doing some homework - most of the buteo species are buzzards, so it would appear that most of the hawks you guys get over there would be called buzzards in the rest of the world :D

Yeah, lot of this going around. Our Common House Sparrow isn't a sparrow at all.

And the regional names for freshwater fish are all screwed up.

    :D

And an Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer ain't like a Hackbrett at all!

Great images Al. Its plumage and coloration sort of remind me of a peregrine falcon surprisingly. Handsome bird.thumb.gif

Call it what you will it's a beautiful bird. Power lines and the associated right of ways are perfect for raptors, providing both convenient perches and habitat for prey species. It would be great if they would just make stuff more photogenic headscratch.gif

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Mike! Yes, with Bigma, resting the tripod mount on the window of my pickup (didn't have my vehicle support with on this trip).

Thanks Stephen! This is actually a pale morph - the normally coloured birds have a really bright rusty brown breast, where this guy is whitish. That is really a handsome looking bird (on my list of birds to get :D)!

Hey Al...the one thing I've come to realize when it comes to names is that no matter what you call it, it is what it is and a photo provides all the information one needs. deal.gif

Hi Al, The heck with the pole and wires.. great shots of a very interesting bird. I've watched the adult RT's down a good sized mouse with one swallow, then off to catch another.
