so if david hobby, or some random person, gave you $1000 and told you to buy anything you want so that you have a complete strobist setup (you already have a camera and all that stuff) what gear would you get. you can buy anything as long as it has to do with strobist and it would contain everything you need. So what would you get?

3 - Pocket wizards plus II's $170ea.
2 - Nikon SB-80DX flashes $80ea.
2 - Manfrotto 3361 Light stands (8ft) = $60ea
3 - Flash Zebra Lock cables = $14ea.
2 - Photogenic Eclipse 60" Umbrellas (removeable black top) = forget $$.$$
1 - Sekonic L-358 light meter with RT-32 module = $200
You could go the less expensive route by using the new radio poppers, cheaper light stand, and you can find cheaper Nikon speedlights. Good luck with the search.
right now im going with
2 430ex
cactus triggers
these stands
and some gel filters
and some sort of hotshoe adapter so that i can use the triggers with the 430ex

I'd grab bogen super clamps to replace the light stands. Light stands are always a pain. Super clamps are much more versatile and secure.
The whole 80 bucks a pop is a pipe dream unless your lucky. Try around 115 nowdays. No thanks at all to DH.
oooo i never looked ont ebay for SB-80DX i think i tried a bunch of others but not that type. i might just have to get some some cus i take it nikon flashes are better than canon flashes

David Hobby mentioned about these new trigger pair on the strobist site this week.
Cheers.
Buy three of each:
a) 80$-120$ Nikon SB-24,26 or 28
b) 0.01$ - Roscosun Swatchbook (= GelFilters)
c) 1$ - Velcro
d) 40$ - Lightstand with spigot mount
e) 20$ - Hama Umbrellaswivel
f) 20$ - White shoot trough umbrellas (don't bother with silver, they eat light)
g) 20$ - Gadget infinity radio flash triggers and reciever
h) 20$ - 8x2700mha rechargables for each flash
i) 20$ - 1h recharger
and a bag that takes all lighting gear.
Of course you can buy higher quality stuff that does the same but costs more than just 600$.
