For the past few days at work , I have been seeing this Kingfisher flying around persistantly ..
Well , today , upon excavation of some dirt , we uncovered the Kinfishers' nest , and sadly , killed 1 baby .
I managed to save the rest , 6 in all , although 1 was hurt somewhat , and have them in my care for now .. I can't find any wildlife center that is open after hours .
Does anyone know of what I should feed them until I can get them to the wildlife center I know of tomorrow ??
I was thinking about a few things ... Smash up some worms/minnows and feed them , or get some bird formula from the pet store .. Or , just keep them safe until my wife can get them to the wildlife refuge ..
Any help/suggestions would be greatful .

On another note , boy are they noisy !!!!!!!:oogle :oogle :tough
You know , this is 1 of my favorite birds to photograph , and it is a completely differtent feeling knowing that I can help with possibly 6 of them survive . I only wish we did not have to excavate in that area .. ...

Get in touch with your local audubon society. They should be able to help you out, or at least put you in touch with someone who can.

If you have a local bait shop I'd buy some of what ever is used locally, herring on the west coast, maybe small mackeral in NE? Or get some sardines. At any rate, grind it up in a blender and offer it to the little buggers.

We rescured an orphaned owl one time. Fed it ground up bologne, hamburger, etc. It did OK.
