Hello!

I am a hobbyist and I do all of my editing in Photoshop Elements 4. I am new to SmugMug and would like to order some prints through EZ Prints, but I don't know if I should use AutoColor or not since I have already done the editing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If your workflow is color calibrated (that is you have calibrated your monitor and are using the .icc or .icm profile for both your monitor and for the sumugmug printing) then you probably don't want autocolor.

If these are not true, you might want autocolor. Do a search of the forums for "soft proofing" or "color calibration" to find a *ton* of discussion on this topic. If you are not color calibrated, you can spend hours getting your images just how you like them only to find out that your monitor is totally off and all your prints are now green (or blue, red, etc.)

I am sorry to say that you have just opened a big can of worms! :) But all simple questions seem to lead down a more complicated road when it comes to photography.

Welcome to dgrin, and I am sure that someone else has explained it better than I could. See these to start:

Also, I noticed that in one of those, someone said that Photoshop Elements doesn't support soft-proofing, so you might be out of luck. Dunno, I don't use it. Someone else should be able to say for sure. Anyone?

I've not found any "auto" setting to be very good.
I've printed through Mpix, which is well regarded, on auto colors but never found it to represent what I had.

I've since calibrated my monitor with a Huey Pantone and just use true/no color correction and get pretty much what I saw on the monitor now days (printed through Adoramapix and at home) and that's what I'd recommend.

    Good luck.
