Santa Anita Park/Horse Racing

Santa Anita Park is an old Raceplace in Arcadia CA.
Seabiscuit actually raced there and the subsequent movie was also shot here as well, IIRC.

Anyway they have morning practice sessions which allows you to get very close to all the horses warming up for the day and training.

Our group decided to do some panning practice. I haven't done it in a while so it was fun to get back on the saddle again. :)

Anyway, as you can tell exposing for fast moving large dark subjects can be an exposure nightmare but it's always fun to go out and shoot.

Here are the shots from the day.
1. And they're off.

2. Rounding the bend.

3. Trying some dutch angle. Fun to pan with the camera tilted.

4. Wild buck.

5. Not sure about this one.

Hey thanks, the processing could be a touch cleaner but I just wanted to work on the shots quick. Didn't see anything that I really wanted to work on.
    Maybe after some rest.

We're having a heat wave here.

Out of all of them, The First shot & the Fourth shot are my favourites.
You did well with your panning, that first one's a beauty clap.gif
