I snapped this off at the O's v Yanks game. I would like to get into sports photography, let me know if I'm out of my league with that. Thanks

    Erson,

I see you just joined us yesterday. Welcom to Dgrin, best photo forum on the net.

As for your shot, well, I looked at the other shots that you linked to and first you need to use the "rotate photo" option unter the "photo tools" drop down list in order to get all your shots in the right oreintation.

Most all of your shots have heavy shadows on the faces. That's not uncommon on a clear bright day. It's a tough shooting condition, but one you can deal with. Try adjusting exposure to get some clear facial expressions. You may get some blown highlights, but sometimes you got to give something to get something.

Stick around, there are some great sport shooters here at Dgrin with a wealth of info to share.
Blessed are those who remain flexible, for they shall not get bent out of shape.

I've have trouble with very dark skinned individuals with light uni's on bright/sunny days. Getting exposure is super tough.

As for the shot & composition I think it's pretty good - perhaps better if the thrower or catcher were in the shot, but it's nice.

    Good work :D

You're not exposing for the face, which is a biggie to correct. Blow out whites and skies if you have to, but you don't want dark faces. Also, you're cropping people off, sometimes at strange places. Pay more attention to the details like this.

My suggestion would be to get to the games a little early and have time to take some test shots. You'll be photographing under the same as game conditions, so you'll get the light right. There will be workers around the infield, and you should be able to photograph different skin tones (and if not, try a few test shots of spectators, hopefully at similar distances if possible (and not in the shade).
I think you will figure out the settings so that during the game, you'll already have it set to the right setting. and if a better or particular player is darker skinned, you'll have the right setting to quickly go to.

    Hi there,

I went to your gallery and noticed that you do have several excellent shots. I love the shot of the play at the plate. :D

    Some things I would suggest.
    1. Turn on right click protection...anyone right now can save the original size and call it their own.
    2. Rotate (as stated earlier)
    3. And i'm not sure on this one.....but I don't think it is allowable to sell images of pro teams unless you have permission. (please correct me if I'm wrong on this)

    Good luck!

That's a very good point. Most professional sports leagues are indeed very territorial on this and do require a licensing agreement and fee in order to sell images like that.

Picture is not exposed well ( no detail in the face), main subject is soft

I would remove MLB images for sale from your site
    MLB won't like that

I have seen several sites with MLB or other Pro images on their sites with the disclaimer "These images are not for sale but are for entertainment purposes only" Is that permissable?

As for the other posters who are purely negative--how about some constructive criticism? Isn't that why we are all here?
You've had multiple people tell you the same thing: faces are too dark, exposure is off. Do you not know what to do to correct that? The image is also soft, which has multiple possible reasons for that, each with its own means of correcting it.

I don't see any "purely negative" comments about your images.
