Today i went to printing company to order visiting cards. Had a chit chat with manager who was very friendly. I asked him from where you get all those photos to print on calanders, adverts, posters, books etc etc. He replied
"Internet like everyone do" i said shouldn't you ask the artist or photog

he Replied

"No actually we copy the picture and completely alter it in photoshop colors etc and then publish it, so there is no need to ask photographer"

    What ever happened to integrity?
Hearing stories like that makes me want to :puke

What I want to know is how would he and anyone else who doesn't give a damn about copyrights accomplish this? Do they just cruise photo sites and copy files they want? Are there programs that lift multiple images?

I really feel for photogs who earn their living from their craft having to deal with this kind of crap.

Actually it's real easy to do this, and you must realize the rest of the world has different laws, customs, and cultures.

Many countries steal intellectual property wholesale. China, for one.

Not to worry, with the new pending orphan works legislation we too will join, and encourage this type of activity.

Yes that is true. Pakistan has laws but no one to enforce them :cry
Even large multinationals won't consider the importance of that when ordering printing rolleyes1.gif.

That is why I am very selective about any image I put online. If it is online, you, unfortunately, have to accept that it will be copied and used. Some people don't know the law (in the US), some don't care.

A fellow I know is in racing. His friend orders images from a company that shoots on spec. My friend copies them, then the other guy sends them back for a refund, which they offer.

I explained the copyright law to him. His view? "I know it's copyright vioaltion. I can live with it. It's not like it's costing them any money, because I'm not going to spend any money with them, anyway."

I tried talking sense into him, but it really doesn't matter to him. I finally had to walk away, it made me so mad. Oh, he is a doctor. Money isn't a problem, other than he doesn't want to spend it.
