Looks like the feeder needs some more food :D

If this a reoccurring event why not set up a flash to as a hair/feather light?

It doesn't have to be expensive. A small slave would work.

    Cheers,
    David

thanks David. You are right, It's tough to get a sharp image when shooting a hummer at 1/100 F/4 through a 300mm lens at iso 800.:D

Nice Dan, especially with the low ss.

[you could try putting a branch somewhere close for them to perch on to lose the feeder in your pic ne_nau.gif]

Looks like a male black-chinned hummingbird. Nice glimpse of the gorget.

Pretty cool Dan. Good looking little guy / gal. Let us know how the slave flash, etc works out if you try it.

My yard has been overrun with hummingbirds lately! One was so curious he was hovering about two feet from my face. Of course, when I went in to get the 40D they scattered. I managed to get a few shots. They are heavily cropped, but best I could do.

The second i nthe this series, where he was buzzing near your face. Such a good shot. He looks like he has a little heart on his ear, so adorable. What a curious little guy!

I will post more when I get some time to shoot. They are unbelievably active right now and I'll often see 2 or 3 buzzing around at the same time. They buzz past my head all the time and there is a humming sound that is just amazing. They are amazingly curious about people. It's hard to get shots off because just as you lock focus they zip off and hover in another location. They're very territorial and aggressive to each other.

I have a great setup as I have a feeder, bougainvillea around it, and a fountain with running water...an irresistable combination, apparently...

    Quite a challenge to photograph!

p.s. love your photography! I wish I could come anywhere close to your level...
