Bug ID Please

I have had a cheap (Jessops) 2x converter for some time but rarely used it as results were always C**P with my telephoto lenses with loss of auto focus etc. This shot is an experiment in using it with my Tamron 90 macro, which i found retained auto focus and effectively turning it into a 180mm macro.
I would really like to get an ID on this bug if anyone has any ideas. Suggestions so far are either a snipe fly or horse fly

hi stan, nice photo, there was a similar looking fly pic ,it was a deer fly i believe,they are quite big though 1".
brian may have a different answer.

Thanks for the info and having looked up some info, deer flies and horse flies are of the same family group.

So i wasn't too far out
