Hi everyone - with neck and shoulder problems i'm not a huge fan of neck straps - the camera keep swinign around and sometimes have kids on my shoulders...

So I'd like to get one of those hand/wrist straps I've seen sometimes on the web (but now can't seem to find!)

Any recommendations?

I'm using a Nikon D80 + 18-200 VR and sometimes with the SB-800.

Ideally I'd like to buy it when I get to California (landing at LAX 11th July) before going on my 2.5 week holiday with the family.

Thanks for all advice and tips on where to buy

Cheers, Jase

    Jase,

I'm not sure if this works with the D80 as I use it with my D70 but this one is great:

OUCH 65USD!!! seems really steep for a camera strap....

A friend sent me alink to a cheap one on ebay

Hmm gotta say 10USD vs 65USD - i understand quality differences but this might be one of the times where it's just a big big for me to swallow...

    this is the one: http://www.camdapter.com/

Not the cheapest, but then again, what do you want to trust with your $1000 investment? Camdapter is available with a tripod head compatible base plate, so is actually a good deal if you need one.

Yeah that's what I was looking for.

See 65US for a simple Nikon hand strap = uh uh no way

    but

65US +/- for the camdapter where I can still pop it on to my tripod etc. in a flash - now _that_ is ok as then it's a better design and fulfilling the purpose better thumb.gif

15524779-Ti.gif - I have two of these things and they work a real treat! Check out the DGrin Review You Can Use. Since the time of the review, they have modified/extended their product line. Talking Canon here, if you have a battery grip on your camera, you don't need the bottom plate as the strap loops around a strap pin on the bottom of the BG - just sweet.

    My first criteria would be...
I have a hand-strap that I use with my 70-200mm f/4L IS lens and 1.6x body which I carry in a holster case.

A hand-strap isn't exactly brain surgery technology and most of them will work to one degree or another.

My el-cheapo hand strap made in China is O.K. but, the base covers the battery access door of my cameras. This is unpleasant since I need to unloosen the strap to switch batteries. It doesn't bother me enough to get rid of the strap and buy a new one but, if I were going to purchase a hand strap, I would look for one like the Camdapter Handstrap System. This is fairly pricey (compared with the eBay models) but, might be worth the price for the convenience of being able to switch batteries with the strap firmly attached.

I also would not want a wrist-type strap like the Optech Grip Strap because it would not be as fast to get into action a a standard wrist strap. I like to open my holster case slip my hand into the strap. I think that this would be a bit difficult with the Optech model.

I've had my Camdapter strap and Bogen 3157-type QR plate for over a year and love them on my 20D.

    Camadapter & Optech.
I have the Camadapter when I don't want to have a neckstrap on - I really like it. But I also need a place to hold my camera and don't want to have a camera bag or holster. I have a neck problem at times and also don't like to have the strap. So my solution is the Optech Binoculars Harness. $20. at B&H. It uses the same quick release as the Optech neck straps and so I also have one of those, but for me, the combo of the Camadapter and the Optech Binoculars Harness are incredible. No one sees the camera, since when not shooting, it sits just above my waist. I can be hands free. And if I wear a sweater/vest or jacket, it no one knows from the back that I have a camera. I can easily shoot from the hip with this set up. I really like it. The camadapter is great because it gives the camera extra steadiness.

Go to nearest Wal-Mart and in their sporting good dept is a strap called the Bino-Strap....it is actually for Binoculars but I have used mine with my KM7D and 70-210 f2.8 attached......it takes all the stress off neck and places it out on shoulders....cost should be around $15 - $20 + sales tax......I have one for both of my DSLR's........makes hiking so much easier for those long days...........

Watch the video on this page and you'll see why I use this system....

Crooked Horn Outfitters Slide and Flex Bino System

I would not do a long day of shooting with out my cameras attached to this.......I wish I had known of this when I tramped all about the Czech Republic in 2003.....would have saved me a lot of pain in the neck and shoulders..........................

    Elastic vs Webbing fabric
    Art,

The principle is the same for your Bino Harness as my Optech. I've seen both. The difference is the material - for the Optech it's webbed fabric and doesn't stretch out so if you put a heavier long lens the harness is fixed. The Optech gives you the choice to use an Optech Neck strap too.

A personal choice. But, either way - way way better than a neck strap.
