So I've always done still photography and im thinking of getting a video camera. Because I shoot a lot for the local papers and they are begining to put video on their website and i can also sell video to the news channels.

I don't have a big budget... but what would be a good camera I can get... I have maybe a $500-$700 budget?? Id like to spend as little as possible as im NOT a video guy

    Adam,

What do you hope to capture?

What level of quality? (Do the local papers have quality requirements?)

    What format will you require?

    Will it involve low-light situations?

How much zoom do you require and do you need more wide-angle or telephoto than many cameras provide? (Accessory lenses?)

What length of recording do you need?

Do you have a computer which will suport video editing and production?

The Canon HV20 sounds perfect for you. You can get a refurbished one right now from Newegg for less than $600. Thats a hell of a good price for this camera.
