Cannot make a photo copy

For some reason I can't make a copy by doing "Make a copy" under photo tools, at this time. In particular I'm trying that on this photo:

I'm logged in, and I can click on the "Make a copy" option, and then something happens that makes the page reload, but the copy does not show up unfortunately. No error message is showing up either, so I guess it's not related to the earlier read-only resulting problems of today.
As a side note, I'd love to be able to make aliases instead of copies that can be referenced to from various galleries, so that a photo actually lives in only 1 gallery, but can be a part of many galleries. I think that would also speed up the often slow copy operation.
