I like the idea and the composition isn't bad, but I think you missed the exposure and maybe the focus too. It looks like you couldn't decide to do this shot as a silhouette or as a regular shot and so you went somewhere in between. I would recommend reprocessing it as a B&W silhouette. you could try to go the other way, but the cactus seems noisy and that will just get worse if you brighten the image.
The wildlife forum probably ignored it because it takes a bit of looking before you realize there is a bird in the shot! I was wondering why you had posted it there and then I spotted the bird! I think the bird gets lost because we are looking at all of the blooms. If you wanted to call attention more to the bird, you might try cropping the entire top off the left plant. It is stark, but it puts the focus on the bird. Might look better in B&W?
