My husband and I just returned from our first trip ever to Hawaii. We stayed on the island of Maui for 9 days all expenses paid. We arrived in Maui on Thursday and spent our first night at the Maui Prince Hotel in Makena just south of Wailea. The hotel was beautifu with a Japanese influence. There was a beautiful open air courtyard with a koi pond in the center.

The beach was beautiful and quiet with a view of the West Maui mountains in the distance.

We spent the day (Fri) relaxing on the beach and then we moved to our new home the Four Season Hotel in Wailea a few miles up the road. We stayed in an oceanview suite - what a view!!
IMG
That night we attended a luau and had a few delicious Mai Tais

The following day (Sat) my husband played golf at the Wailea Emerald Course
IMG
In the meantime, I got up at 2AM and went to the top of Mount Haleakala (a 10,000ft dormant volcano) to see the sunrise

It was in the 40's at the summit but it was well worth the trip to see the sunrise. Afterwards I went with a group biking down (OK- actually coasting) the volcano, 28 miles to the beach.

IMG
We stopped at a Protea farm for breakfast and also saw macadamia nuts (yum - I probably ate 5 lbs of them on the trip) growing
IMG
IMG
The following day (Sun) we flew over to the island of Oahu to Pearl Harbor to see the USS Arizona Memorial and tour the USS Battleship Missouri. It was a long day buy my husband really enjoyed it since he is a big history buff.

The next day (Mon) we went on a waterfall hike in the West Maui mountains. It was not a very strenous hike but we got to see and swim in a bunch of waterfalls and fresh water pools.
IMG
IMG
My husband made friends with a chameleon
IMG
At the end of the hike we ended up on top of a ridge for a gorgeous view
IMG
That night we went to a reception at the King Kamehameha Golf Course (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright)
IMG
We had a cute hula performance by some mini-locals
IMG
End of part I
