Unfortunately I only was able to make it out for the last hour of practice. There were a couple of nice areas to shoot from. I hope they leave them open for the race.

A couple from the afternoon.....

    Great GP action here....
    Hi Hirschy,

FANTASTIC shots here mate !! I really like them all. Great compositions and close-ups...!!

My only comment, is that they all seem to be a little over exposed, although I'm only looking at them through my UNcalibrated monitor...(I've been meaning to buy one of those Spyder calibrators...).

I'm not sure what camera or settings you used, but normally I used 'centre-weighted average' metering; I generally have to underexpose by about 1/3rd stop on my 1D MkII N....

Please don't be offended; I hope you don't mind me adding a comparison here. I decreased the brightness and increased the contrast (these are setting you may be able to adjust in camera prior to shooting). I also added a slight vignette for effect.

    Hope to see more,
    Thanks for sharing.

Awesome shots! Were you over where they were coming out of two and enterign the road course? We parked near there when we went out.

I was unable to take my camera to the test last week as I had my two year old with me who wanted to see the motorcycles. I would have loved to try out the new body to see how it performs. While it was neat watching them run, I am undecided as of yet if I will attend this race. The tickets are VERY pricy unless you get the three day GA pass. And for only a 45 minute race? eek7.gif Oh well, at least it's better than F1.

Tdcompton, I will be at the Brickyard, sitting in the stands as usual though. I stopped taking my camera with me to IMS as it was a pain to carry and no good places to shoot fromt he Northwest Vista. Heck I don't even take a cooler anymore, it's worth the money to buy food and beer at the track to not have to carry anything but a scanner and headset with me!

Fire1035>> We are there from around 0730 until the end of the race... I hate dragging a cooler along as well but after last year I wouldn't dare leave it behind!! The past two years we've gone I end up with two things, a second degree burn from the sun (I still have scars from last year rolleyes1.gif ) and dehydration! Last year I talked a friend of mine into going in exchange for carrying the cooler - I might have to try that again! Laughing.gif... They think it's pretty awesome to get in free and we run sig-10 into the Speedway with a full cycle escort for good measure thumb.gif I brought my Nikon last year and while I hated having it out in such hot weather all day long, I managed to get some decent shots of the pits and every driver that went to the driver's meeting.

The shots looked pretty good on the histogram, but when I saw them on some other monitors, they did look a little over exposed. I was shooting full manual and the light was going from full sun to full cloud cover fairly quickly. I was scurrying to play catch up.ne_nau.gif

Tdcompton - I will not be going to the brickyard.

fire1035 - I was shooting from that area that had no fence, overlooking T1-T4. I also shot from T6 on to the esses. I don't think the GP is all that pricey for the GA ticket, which I think will offer better viewing. $75 for a 3 day pass, and you should check out the amount of on track activity. They run a bunch, and there are 4 different classes. Sunday you will get 4 races. :D
