Can you do a little local sharpening on the left and the solitary hoodoo on the right? If so it would be stellar!!

    Bryce or Cedar Breaks??

Looks like Bryce to me, you can see Thor's Hammer in the lower right. Awesome photo Aaron! I didn't like most of the stuff I got when I was there but this is spectacular.

I know, and I'm still the same, but it makes such nice stars! The TS-Marc is certainly catching.

I love your optimism and humor. Hope to see you at a workshop/shootout soon! :D

I got a couple local guys near me that are interested in doing Monument Valley. I'll let you know with as muc advance notice as possible.

Oregon coast has been on my list for years and looks like it ain't going to happen in 2009 if I do the other two trips. deal.gif

monument is a place i would like to do during a rainy cloud day (how do i pull that off?) :D

anyway, i hear monument has local guides that do tours geared to photographers and taking them to the best spots. ever hear of this? think its worth it? or do you believe we would be better off scouting out ourselves?
heck i just want to make sure i can find a compo for sunrise/sunset that hasent been over done.(my usual worry...haha)

let me know and lets get to it.

next week sometime i might go to toroweap overlook (just north of Havasupai on north rim) or bryce canyon..i just cant decide...i only have enough gas money & time for one trip....

Aaron, very nice shot and a great star. I am beginning to see how much better the 24T&S is for stars, than most other lenses. Pointier and sharper, and more distinct.

Regarding Monument Valley, I Nightingale and I shot that on the way back from Bryce and Zion in summer of 2006.

If you want to get the better shots there you must hire a Navaho guide. You can arrange a guide in advance, or sometimes you can hire them at the gate. But you really want one who understands the needs and desires of photographers. It is nice if they have a good 4-wheel drive vehicle also. There is lots and lots and lots of soft, shifting sand, that will bury 2-wheeled veihicles. Ask me how I know about that sometime:D .
You also will be much better off if you can afford to hire one and be their only customer, rather than one of half a dozen photographers.

Monument Valley is all private land and non-escorted visitors are not allowed in most of the areas you really want to shoot from. This is a shot that is unavailable without a guide. If you are not escorted, you will definitely be unwelcome. ( Just like someone decided to picnic in your backyard uninvited.) Non-escorted visitors are restricted to the main road, and only between certain hours - like well after sunrise as I recall.

I used the services of Dan Chee, and he did a great job and was a lot of fun.
