Seems like SmugShot has been causing my iPhone to crash. Three times now, when I've launched SmugShot, the iPhone has totally crashed. That's the only app I've experienced it with (though I have no trouble believing that it's really an OS bug). Anyone else notice this?

    Otherwise, very cool app!

You know, I had that problem with other apps that had previously worked fine. One moment they were fine, the next 3 different apps crash back to the home screen every time I try to load them. I shut the phone off and then turned it back on and that fixed it. I still get random crashes when loading different apps though; sometimes causing the iPhone to reboot itself.

Did you try to reset the phone? If any app (or if anything at all) freezes your phone, you can hold the home button (the round one) for about 8-10 seconds and it should 'kill' the app and return to the home screen. If that doesn't work, hold both home and power buttons and it will do a hard reset of the phone and reboot it.

Great app, it's unfortunate not being able to grab full-res photos from the camera roll, since I still instinctively use the iPhone camera app to take my photos before uploading. What would be nice is to have the app not default to the camera immediately after logging in.

Also, despite there being an entry in SmugShot settings (under iPhone settings) for default album, it still seems to reset back to the SmugShot album each time I log in to my account from the app. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but currently I do end up changing my upload album each time I enter the app.

I had gobs of app crashes (just the app was crashing, not the whole phone this time) the other day in SmugShot. It crashed over and over every time I tried to launch it, even after rebooting the phone. Eventually it did start working again. Not sure if it was related to the S3 outage, but if it was, I'd hope that it would handle the problem more gracefully. I'm happy to send crash logs along if you want to take a look at them.

    Size & GPS Data
I started experimenting with smugshot yesterday and found the following

If you upload images that you have already captured with the iphone's built in application, the images are uploaded at a reduced resolution (640x480) and the EXIF data (ie. gps data) is not transferred.

Right, it's an Apple limitation, sorry :(

Any idea when you might be submitting fixes to Apple? Such as the default gallery not sticking, defaulting to camera, etc.?

I'd gladly pay for this app if it worked more seamlessly.

    Thanks!

    SmugMug 50% off First Year?
Loving the app, though I must admit I tend to upload via Camera Roll rather than pre-meditated thought to use SmugShot to take a photo. Keep up the great work guys! clap.gif

One thing I'd really like to ask about, and I did a minimalist search to see if anyone had asked so be kind if they already did, but I noticed that SmugShot on the iTunes AppStore mentions a 50% off 1st year membership with SmugMug. I recently gave my dad an iPhone and I've been trying to get my parents to give SmugMug a shot, and with 50% off, they might even skip past the 2 week trial. Even I personally might try a pro membership account (in addition to my current power user one) at 50% off (I also have an iPhone, as to not take advantage of this if it's considered a deal). Is this just a wrong description that hasn't been changed, or how would I go about this?

    Andy,

I've noticed that pictures taken in SmugShot end up with the larger resolution noted above, but still have no EXIF data displayed on SmugMug. I can tell that the GPS data are there, but the date of the image doesn't even display. I took from your answer here that pulling images from the Camera Roll results in a downsized image and stripped EXIF data, but does Apple strip EXIF data on the way out regardless of whether the picture being uploaded was taken with the native Camera app or with SmugShot? Or am I missing something? In any event, thanks for this great, free app, which is another reason to love SmugMug.

    Cheers

I don't suppose there is any chance of getting a similar app coded for those of us ancient Windows Mobile users? I must say I am very jealous of you iPhone users for many reasons (this being one of them).

Love Smugshots. Killer app for the iPhone.

    two questions:

    1) would it be possible to enable background uploading. Guess not since iPhone won't allow multitasking but it would be great if you can take a snapshot using Smugshots and then have it uploaded in the background.
    2) in a future version, it would be great if there was an indication when the GPS did not have an accurate lock. This would alert me that I have to wait a few more seconds before I shoot.

    Love SmugShot....few feature requests? :)
Hi...just got my iPhone today...this app makes it totally worth it...love it

A few requests if you guys don't have enought to do ;)

    1) Could it keep me logged in so I don't have to do that every time

    2) When I select an album to upload to, could it keep that until I select a different one; seems that everytime I login it shows the album as "smugshot"

    3) Could the keywords be kept in memory with a multi-select drop down so I don't have to retype it every time

Still - LOVE THIS APP.....thank you thank you thank you

If anyone is reading this, I have the same question. What gives on the date? GPS is great, but I'd much rather know when I took a photo.

Sorry for dredging up an old thread, this was the closest I could find on the topic.

I'm glad you did. I don't think there's been any change.

Any plans to add the ability to browse SmugMug photos, albums and do slideshows on the iPhone with this app?

I browse Smugmug photos in Safari all the time. ne_nau.gif

You even get the option to view the full blown page, or a lite "iphone" version of any smugmug gallery.

ne_nau.gif Unfortunately the iPhone Safari navigation for categories is broken -- I reported this bug about 5 months ago.

The bug is that navigation of galleries by category does not work. Initial set of galleries for a category load fine, but navigating beyond the initial set results in galleries from all categories loading.

Navigating the full blown page is just not a practical option for me.

Any plans for a SmugMug iPhone app for browsing categories and galleries?
